Register To Vote

To vote in Iowa, you must be registered to vote. To qualify to register to vote, you must be:

  • A U.S. citizen
  • A Iowa resident
  • At least 17 1/2 years old (must be 18 years old by election day to vote)

You cannot:

  • Be a convicted felon (unless your voting rights have been restored )
  • Be judged mentally incompetent to vote by a court
  • Claim the right to vote in any other place


Voter Registration Form


You must update your voter registration if you:

  • Change your name
  • Change your address
  • Change party affiliation

To register or to update your registration, complete a registration form and return it to your county auditor.

OR, to register to vote online, use the Iowa Secretary of State's online voter registration system.



    NEW: Online Voter Registration System

    This system was launched by the Iowa Secretary of State on January 1, 2016.  Anyone with a valid Iowa driver's license or DOT-issued ID can utilize the new system.

    Safe at Home Program

    This program is an address confidentiality program.  It helps survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, trafficking, stalking and violent crimes to improve their lives with substitute address services, mail forwarding services and confidential voter registration.
